So sorry that updates have been lax. I've missed my monthly deadline (aigo) so please accept this poor substitute cartoon of me reading to the fetus. My obstetrician recommended it. Reading to the fetus, I mean.. not drawing a cartoon about it.
Hello my friends! Oh, you would not believe the angst I had to go through to get this comic onto this website. The version 1.0 of this particular recounting of "DMACOY:Korea" can be seen at www.expatcomix.webs.com... but transferring that comic to this one proved to be harder than I expected. I saved it in the only format that seemed possible to me (Microsoft Word) and then saw that no other website would accept my beautiful comic in that format... and conversion for some reason did not seem possible. Oh the tears! So what did I do, spend an afternoon standing in front of a computer with a faulty internet connection in UB trying-trying-trying to get the damned thing to convert properly and allow itself to be uploaded to the weebly site? No. Instead I spent a month indoors REDRAWING the entire cartoon! Plus I added some side illustrations of temples and trees and whatnot for good fun.
Anyway, this cartoon was indeed taken almost word-for-word from a conversation between myself and several teaching colleagues in Uijeonbu, Korea. It makes me nostalgic for those wonderful days when we sat around a barbacue joint and made gay jokes. Before you all condemn me for laughing at the gay jokes straight men make, let me just say that I am a devout proponent of gay marriage and see the phenomenon of the gay joke as a healthy transition point of society's shifting views of homosexuality. Humor is step two between step one (taboo) and step three (acceptance).
This comic can be found under the "Korea" tab at the top of the page. The title is "DMACOY Presents: Take Two." Enjoy!
Hello, hello! As a current expatriate and former English teacher living in Asia I ask everybody who appreciates good webcartoons, excellent writing and fantastic artwork to give my site a bit of latitude as they check out the work on display :-)
